Social media marketing has become one of the most effective ways to grow your business online. It’s powerful because most people on the internet browse social media for entertainment, news, and more importantly product recommendations. Companies who embrace social media marketing, or SMM, are more likely to empower past customers to become their ambassadors.
It’s important to take advantage of omnichannel marketing by utilizing all relevant platforms to reach your potential customers. The top social channels include Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc. Most businesses will forget about online forums which will provide targeted exposure and create strong social signals.
How Social Media Marketing Works
In order to properly market your brand on social media platforms, you should first create and customize your profiles. It’s important to look legit so go all out when creating your account and leave no stone unturned. If you’re browsing Amazon and you see a product with zero reviews it’s a big red flag, the same goes for social accounts with low follower counts. The next step is to make sure your profile is not empty, this is also bad news so make sure you start posting.
Let’s break it down:
- Create and customize your social profiles
- Invite friends, family, and current customers to follow you
- Start posting content relevant for your industry
- Respond to every comment
Can social media marketing really help your business?
It’s not unheard of for a small business to grow into a multi-million dollar company simply by leveraging social media as a catalyst for growth. Engaging a direct audience through social media will increase web traffic, improve conversion rates, increase brand awareness, and more importantly create an open line of communication. So yes, social media marketing works and it can help your business.
Choosing the right social platforms
Every business is different and should be treated that way when deciding which social platforms to use. It’s important to understand your customers before making the decision to invest your time. Although, there are some exceptions when it comes to this rule. Generally speaking, the most important social platforms to start using right away are Facebook, Twitter and Reddit (seriously).
Social Media Marketing Strategy
That’s pretty much how you get started but how do you turn your social accounts into a machine? Well, it’s pretty simple if you’ve already done the above. While growing your social accounts by being an active member of “social society” you’ll want to pepper in your blog content. Don’t ever post for the sake of posting, the goal should always be to post what you believe will resonate with your audience.
Let’s discuss my social strategy for turning followers into customers.
The Social Bait
If you’re familiar with customer acquisition tactics you have probably heard the fishing analogy before and yes, I’m using it once again. Imagine your potential customers are swimming around in a giant ocean, these fish are skeptical after seeing friends take the bait so they would rather be safe. That’s why you have to have irresistible bait and I’m not talking clickbait, make a really good article for your audience to digest.
You have done the hardest part, they have taken your bait by clicking the link from your social post. Now, we need to hook them and reel them in to close the deal. This is where we need to start the nurturing process and turn this potential customer into a paying customer. Let’s start by asking for their contact details, in most cases, this is an equal exchange of value like a free resource for their email address.
The lead is now on your line and all you have to do now is reel them in slow and steady to secure your sale. This is where drip campaigns become so important in modern social marketing. Take the time to craft an email sequence to send to these potential customers with the final messages being your call-to-action.
